We are looking for a Senior Scientist (m/f/d)

Location: Zürich, Switzerland – Start: as soon as possible

At cellvie, we are leveraging the therapeutic potential of mitochondria. Based on augmentation and replacement, an approach developed at Harvard, we are building a medicinal platform, with first applications in ischemia-reperfusion injury and gene therapy delivery. Cellvie is a venture-backed start-up with primary activities in Zurich and Boston.

We are looking for a highly motivated, science-driven mitochondria expert, having multiple years of hands-on research experience in mitochondria biology, metabolism, and/or genetics.

You must be an entrepreneurial team player with great passion, drive, and diligence in your work.

What we are offering:

  • The role of Senior Scientist, in charge of leading individual projects, working closely with cellvie's founders.
  • Varied task environment, extending from laboratory work to overseeing pre-clinical and one day clinical studies along with project management duties
  • The chance to be actively involved in key aspects of developing a therapy to help patients, contributing to scientific development, regulatory submissions, and patenting.
  • Great responsibility and degrees of freedom – as one of the early hires, you will have the opportunity to truly shape the company, your role within and become an integral part of its success
  • A highly dynamic and entrepreneurial environment
  • Competitive pay and equity package

Who we are seeking:

You are expected to be self-motivated and resourceful. You must hold a PhD and have several years of hands-on research experience working with mitochondria. You should have mastered the associated laboratory techniques (such as OXPHOS enzymatic assays, cytochrome c release assay, aerobic respiration and glycolysis, ATP quantification, etc.), and be experienced in cell culture methods (including primary cell isolation and activation, cell viability and cytotoxicity), flow cytometry, fluorescent microscopy, and standard molecular biology techniques including cloning, real-time PCR, transfection, Western blot analysis and immunoprecipitation. Experience with mitochondria isolation and characterization are of central interest for us. You will be expected to design and perform experiments and interpret data independently.

Other qualities:

  • Self-sufficiency in developing and executing a plan to solve a problem
  • Creativity and the ability to think beyond an experiment to envision the path to a product
  • Capacity to adapt as priorities and requirements change
  • Ability to plan and document your work diligently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Positive spirit, a real drive for science and a good sense of humor

Who we are:

  • cellvie is a venture-backed biotechnology start-up, bringing about mitochondria-based therapies
  • We are a team of likeminded individuals, passionate about our technology and the problems we seek to solve
  • We are eager to go the extra mile and take pride in and joy from our work
  • We have shown safety and efficacy of our therapy in pre-clinical studies and in a first clinical pilot and are now focusing on the commercial translation of the technology in a variety of fields
